Fjeldberg Cemetery Committee Database
Fjeldberg Cemetery Map
DRAFT
Welcome to the Fjeldberg Cemetery database and map. You can use the two attached spreadsheets to determine whether someone has been buried or has purchased a plot. Further, you would be able to find that information to help find the plot. If you are looking to purchase a plot, the map will show available plots for sale.
But first, a few things to remember before you review the spreadsheets:
The Fjeldberg cemetery has 1,000 plus people buried, so a method was developed to divide the cemetery into sections. The North section is north of the north paved road. Similarly, the South section lies south of the Unpaved path that has two ninety degree corners. The large Middle area between the North paved and the South Unpaved path contains most of the graves. To attempt to further subdivide the Middle section, the north approximately 70 feet of the Middle section became section Middle A. The southern most area of the Middle section (imagine a line from the northern corner going straight east) became Middle C.
This left a large area labeled Middle B.
Rows were assigned from west (highway 69) to east, as examples: North 9, Middle A 2, Middle B 4, Middle C 9, and South 13. Rowa are numbered sequentially from Highway 69 eastward, Please note that some “rows”, especially in the Middle sections are not always straight. However, given the Section and row, this is a reasonable way to search along that row to find a specific plot.
Attachment 1 Alphabetical by Name. Fields include: Name, including last, first, middle, an area for other relevant names such as maiden, divorced, etc. Section/Row defines the location in the Fjeldberg map ,Veteran status, Birth date, Death date (Note: if this field is blank, the person is assumed to be alive)
Attachment 2 Map (Note: The cemetery committee is currently placing markers on the ground at the beginning of rows.) Using the location obtained from Attachment 1, find the section, and then the row. By walking along this row, the grave should be found within this row. This map is color coded; see small codes on the left side, just above the north paved road on the map. The most used codes are black (head stone), blue (buried), green (not buried), yellow (available for urn size burial), and white (available for full or smaller size burial).
Error correction The map contains some incorrect information, so any corrections and additional information would be welcomed by calling the church office at 515 597-2831. For example, quite a few older sandstone headstones have become unreadable. Multiple people have been buried with no headstone or possibly under the non readable headstones. Data items, such as maiden name, should be added, if available. Thanks in advance for your help.
