Fjeldberg – Devotion for September 10th, 2026

READ (Matthew 5:9)

"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called "Children of God."

REFLECT

For the relatively short history of our Country, we have "been in" many wars or conflicts. Some with other countries and some with our fellow citizens. The greatest number of deaths of our fellow citizens was during the Civil War. An estimated combined total of 620,000-720,000 American soldiers of the Union and Confederacy died.

Of course, there have been "justifiable wars". However, historians have noted that America has lost or has had "minimal end results" in wars or conflicts.

The heartache and grief that family members deal with when a loved one is killed while serving our Country is overwhelming. Also, there are innocent children and people who are killed in "war torn" Countries.

It's not just dealing with the grief for the loss of our soldiers who are killed while fighting in wars. Many who have served and survived physically deal with the mental health issue labeled PTSD "Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome." It's not a "new" mental health issue. Years ago, the term was "Shell Shocked." Their psychological illness can be debilitating and lead many to commit suicide. Some statistics estimate that 17 to 22 Veterans suffering from PTSD commit suicide every day in our Country.

PRAY

Dear God,

Comfort those families who are grieving the deaths of their loved ones and be with those who are suffering with PTSD. We pray that our Country's leaders will make the right decision to determine if a war is "justified" or if it will be another war lost or ending with "minimal results".  Amen.
