Fjeldberg – Devotion for  May 12th, 2026

READ (James 5:7)

“Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains.”

REFLECT

I enjoy watching field work in the spring. I look forward to seeing the first rows of corn and beans poking through the ground. At home, I’ve been known to push the mulch back and dig in the dirt where I think a plant should be sprouting upwards. In my eagerness to see proof that the plant is still alive, I have damaged the tender shoots and even broken some of them.

Just like waiting for the beauty of spring, it’s easy to become impatient with the people and situations around us. We don’t know what others are experiencing or the difficulties they are working through. We need to slow down and try to see things from different perspectives. How can you practice patience this week? Is there a situation or relationship where you need to trust God and allow growth to happen in God’s time?

PRAY

Dear Lord, teach me to wait with patience and hope, just like the farmers trust in the change of seasons, spring rains, and the promise of a new crop. Help me to nurture the seeds of faith you have planted in my heart, even when I don’t see growth right away. Give me the wisdom to trust your timing and the courage to let go of any doubts, knowing that you are always at work. Amen.
