Fjeldberg – Devotion for March 24th, 2026
READ (Ephesians 2:10)
“For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life.”
REFLECT
It once was thought and strictly taught that Christians were only redeemed through their good works, without which they would not receive God’s grace in their lives. Martin Luther broke with that tradition, nearly killed for teaching that God’s love is unconditional and that good works follow from living a life based on faith and gratitude for our blessings. I reflect on his wonderful revelation and appreciate its relevance even now in modern times. We are currently in the midst of the college basketball season known as “March Madness”. We of course celebrate the athletic achievements of especially our favorite teams that participate (Iowa has five such teams). But what I admire most is the number of players that have used their success to faithfully give to the communities around them, as many have. For me, whether they win or lose on the basketball court, they are truly winners in life lived well.
PRAY
Dear God, thank you for the opportunities to share with others the benefits of success that we may have attained. Please help us to remember that, in faith and gratitude, good works follow. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
