Fjeldberg – Devotion for June 23rd, 2026
READ (Ephesians 4:32)
“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”
REFLECT
We’ve been in North Carolina the last couple of days for the kids’ Ninja Warrior finals. People from all over the world are here, and it is packed! So packed, in fact, that it can be frustrating just trying to get around without someone cutting in front of you, bumping into you, or even trying to avoid getting hit in the head by a frisbee!
It’s a lot to take in, even as an adult. Now imagine all of that stress, plus the pressure of competing in front of a crowd and going up against some really, really good competition. It’s understandable how kids can become stressed out and melt down over some of the simplest things. Looking back, I know I haven’t always had as much compassion as I could have on this trip.
Then I started thinking about all the factors that go into an event like this. How much of it do I actually have control over? Practically none — except how I respond in those moments.
I wonder how much less stress I would have carried around if I had realized that a few days ago. Maybe I could have simply enjoyed the experience more and focused on watching my kids do what they love. Maybe I could have been more supportive when things didn’t go the way they had hoped. And maybe more kindness and compassion on my part would help bring out the best in the people around me, too.
PRAY
Dear Lord, please help us accept the things we cannot control and respond with kindness and compassion in the moments we can. We get so tied up in what is happening right in front of us that we often miss the bigger picture. Thank you for your gentle reminders, your patience, and your grace. In your name we pray, Amen.
