Fjeldberg – Devotion for July 28th, 2026

READ (Ecclesiastes 11:4)

Whoever watches the wind will not plant; whoever looks at the clouds will not reap.

REFLECT

Do you ever put things off until the time is “just right”? I find myself doing that with projects I want to tackle. I am going to scrapbook when….. I am going to volunteer more in my community when… I am going to visit that old friend when..…

The picture Solomon paints is of a farmer who never gets around to planting because conditions never seem ideal. There's always too much wind, too many clouds, or another reason to wait. If he keeps waiting for perfect circumstances, the harvest never comes.

That truth applies just as powerfully to our spiritual lives. We tell ourselves, I'll spend more time in prayer when work settles down. I'll start reading my Bible consistently next month. I'll share my faith when I know more. I'll forgive when I feel ready. I'll serve when I have more time.

But spiritual growth doesn't happen in perfect conditions. It happens in the ordinary, imperfect moments of life. Waiting for the "right time" can become a subtle form of disobedience.

Faith is rarely about having ideal circumstances. It is about trusting God enough to take the next step, even when the future is uncertain.

Every day we delay obedience is a day we miss opportunities for God to shape our character, deepen our faith, and use us to bless others. We may not control the "wind" or the "clouds" in our lives, but we can choose to be faithful where God has placed us today.

PRAY

Lord, forgive me for waiting for perfect conditions before obeying You. Help me to trust You enough to take the next step of faith, even when life feels uncertain or inconvenient. Give me a willing heart that responds to Your leading today, knowing that You are responsible for the harvest. Amen.
