Fjeldberg – Devotion for January 27th, 2026
READ (Psalm 118:24)
This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
REFLECT
I lived with two roommates during my first year at Wartburg College. We were assigned to a room barely adequate for three young women on the 4th floor of Wartburg Hall, the oldest dorm on campus with no elevators, one telephone, and one multi-stall bathroom to accommodate 20 plus ladies. We had not met prior to moving day, but soon learned that we shared similar backgrounds, religious beliefs, values, and lifestyles. We rapidly became best friends and together began our adult paths of faith, leadership, and service in a spiritually inspired environment.
My deep friendship with these two women has enriched my life in countless ways over the past 65 years. We are blessed with sustained time and experiences anchored in strong relationships, defined purpose, and deep gratitude for God’s everlasting presence.
Two of us live in the countryside about 75 miles apart. We are both early risers and often reach out by text before dawn with expressions of gratitude for God’s indescribable gifts of Jesus, our beloved families, and our steadfast friends. One of our favorite Bible verses, often in conjunction with a beautiful sunrise, is Psalm 118:24. It serves as a powerful reminder to live presently and to find joy in each day as a divine gift from God. Like all humans there are times when our strength fades and struggles overwhelm us, but the grace and mercy of God through His Son and the blessing of longtime friends remind us of the opportunity to live each day with purpose, kindness, and generosity.
PRAY
O Lord most High. Help us to remember that each new day is very special because it is ushered in by you. We pray for your guidance to live each day to the fullest, sharing your love and peace with those in our midst.
In Jesus’ name, Amen
