Fjeldberg – Devotion for January 22nd, 2026

READ (1 Corinthians 1:4-7)

I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that has been given you in Christ Jesus, for in every way you have been enriched in him, in speech and knowledge of every kind just as the testimony of Christ has been strengthened among you so that you are not lacking in any gift as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ.

REFLECT

I love how Paul starts many of his letters to a community by giving thanks. Imagine if we started everything we did or said with gratitude. The kind of gratitude that Paul opens his letters with is not for the people, but for all that God has given to them. What a perspective shift! The grace that has been given to them is not something that they have earned, rather they received God’s grace because of God’s love.

It can be all too easy to look at our lives or lives together through a lens of scarcity and lack of gifts or God’s grace; maybe we need to shift our perspective and check our hearts. There are certainly moments in life when we do have little by worldly standards, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t have gifts and skills given to us by God.

As we wait for Jesus to come back again, we can take heart in the promise of God’s abundance and blessing. We may feel uncertain, stretched thin, or incomplete, yet Paul reminds us that in Christ we lack nothing we truly need. God has already supplied what will sustain us, grace upon grace, until the day Christ is fully revealed.

PRAY

God of grace, thank you for your presence and gifts in our lives. In moments when we feel we are lacking, remind us of your presence. In moments when we lack gratitude, work in our hearts and minds to shift our perspective. Amen.
