Fjeldberg – Devotion for February 12th, 2026

READ (Matthew 25:40)

“Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these, my brothers and sisters, you did unto me.”

REFLECT

This time of the year there is an increase in the number of requests for donations for charitable institutions and more local needs for community organizations.

I understand that there are so many charitable requests that it can be overwhelming. Often those in need are judged as lazy, taking advantage of the system, etc. That can be the case for some, but how does one know what individual circumstances led to their situations?

When we mention “charity” it's often thought of as contributing money to any number of organizations.

Of course, we know there are other ways to be charitable, for example, giving of our time by offering to drive others to appointments, visiting “shut ins”, donating to or volunteering at food pantries, etc.

It's understandable that we may focus on our own situations, busy schedules, our own health issues, and fail to consider what others are dealing with; hunger, job loss, unmet health needs, parents dealing with their children’s health issues, medical bills, etc.

 PRAY

May we not be judgmental of all of those in need but respond with compassion and offer help in ways we are able. Amen.
