Devotion –Tuesday, September 16th, 2025

Bible Text
“The Lord said, ‘Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.’ Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.” (1 Kings 19:11-1)

Reflect
The Lord had a message for Elijah but first Elijah had to be prepared to hear it.

We live in a noisy, distracting world. Social media, cluttered schedules, disturbing news reports and all the other intrusions of modern life which dominate our attention.

So it was that in the middle of the night I awoke with the substance of this devotion on my mind. A “gentle whisper” planted in my consciousness.

Pray
Lord enable us to refocus on what you wish to tell us. Help us to set aside quiet time to approach you and open our minds to your instruction. Amen.
