Fjeldberg – Devotion for September 18th, 2025
READ (1 Thessalonians 5:11)
Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
REFLECT
Messages in the world around us are quick to point out our weaknesses and failures. It’s easy to hear messages that tell us we are not enough, we need to have more, buy more, look better, dress better, smell better, and maybe your dog could smell better too. This verse tells me I can be an encouraging presence in the lives of my friends, and even in the lives of strangers. Tell someone you like their shoes, or that their pumpkin bars were delicious. We all feel good when someone gives us a compliment. Sometimes you can even go deeper and let them know how a word of wisdom helped you navigate a problem. Or maybe you can tell them their dog smells good today!
Are you already good at this? Great, keep it up! Is this an area of growth for you? It’s an easy way to make a real and loving difference in someone’s life.
PRAY:
Loving God,
You give us words, help us to use our words in positive ways, to build up the people we touch in our daily lives. May our simple words of kindness bless the receivers with your loving presence in their lives.
Amen.
