Fjeldberg – Devotion for July 15th, 2025

READ (Hebrews 13:1-2)
“Keep on loving each other brothers and sisters. Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it.”

REFLECT
WHO IS OUR NEIGHBOR?

It was a beautiful early spring day in Nebraska, when our family of four left to travel to Northern Minnesota for my mother’s Memorial Service. A couple hours out of Fairmont, Nebraska, the weather suddenly changed and we were in a blinding blizzard. Soon we came upon two semis parked side by side and blocking the highway. Craig bravely got out of the car wearing his shorts, short-sleeved shirt and bedroom slippers to talk with the drivers. He returned to our car with ice sickles hanging from his clothes.

One of the drivers told him not to worry, just follow his truck up the highway a few miles where there was a small store where the owners lived in the back. They would give us shelter.

We followed on faith, as we attempted to keep his taillights in view. We arrived safely and the owners welcomed us with others, who had stopped because of the storm.

Sleep did not come easily on the sawdust floor and soon we were learning the stories of our fellow travelers.

The next morning, our hosts made breakfast from their small kitchen for all of us. The storm had subsided, and we soon learned that all of the car engines were snow packed. The other travelers insisted on clearing ours first, so that we could get to my mother’s service.

Our neighbors were many that night, GOD’S ANGELS! I do not remember even one of their names. But I thank God for each one.

PRAY
Dear Father, Thank you for watching over us in unexpected times as well as in good times. Help us to be aware of the needs around us and how we can be a good neighbor at the unexpected times as well as the expected times.
In Christ’s name we pray, Amen
