Fjeldberg – Devotion for September 4th, 2025
READ (Psalm 62:1-2)
Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from God. Truly God is my rock and my salvation; God is my fortress, I will never be shaken.
REFLECT
Rest is such an important part of life, yet it’s often the first thing we push aside. My undergrad degree is in Leisure, Youth, and Human Services (and yes, the punctuation matters). People always get caught up on the “leisure” part, as if that must mean wasted time or an easy path. When we look around, we see how desperately needed leisure is. People are busy, burned out, and stretched thin. Even Labor Day, a holiday designed for rest, often becomes another day of catching up on projects or squeezing in more work.
Our culture struggles with rest and making space. I think part of that struggle comes from fear; fear that stepping away means losing security, or that somehow we’ll fall behind. Scripture reminds us that rest is not about laziness or falling short. It’s about trust. Trust that even in our stillness, God is at work. Trust that God’s love for us is not based on productivity. Trust that God’s presence holds us fast.
So, I encourage you to find some time this week to make space, whether that’s a quiet moment with God, a walk outside, or simply being still. God meets us in those pauses, renewing us and reminding us of His deep love for you and for me.
PRAY:
God of peace and rest, give us the confidence and assurance to rest in You. Recharge our spirits, so that we may go out and share Your love with the world around us. Amen.
