Fjeldberg – Devotion for December 4th, 2025

READ (2 Corinthians 5:17)
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation, the old has gone, the new has come!

REFLECT

I was going through some papers I had saved and found a Faith Statement written several years ago by one of our Fjeldberg Confirmation students. This is a condensed version of her Faith Statement.

She wrote that one day at Confirmation Camp, a butterfly landed on her shoe. It stayed on her shoe for some time. She thought about it later and compared the butterfly to God's presence in our lives. She wrote that God isn't big and scary. He is with the fragile. He is with us when we go through hardships and pain. He goes with us on our journeys through life.

She closed with challenging us to find ways to show this loving God to others.

When I was looking for a Bible verse for this devotion, I read that as a butterfly goes through changes in its life cycle, before emerging as a butterfly, it can be compared to the growth in faith in Christians' lives. The insightful Faith Statement of this young person reminds us that God is with us in ways we may not always realize or understand. For example, who would expect that a baby born in a stable would be the Son of God and Savior of the world?

PRAY

Dear God,

Thank you for your presence in our lives. When we deal with sad or difficult situations, we can put our trust in you. As we celebrate Advent and Christmas, thank you for the birth of your Son and the promise of eternal life to those who believe. Amen
