Fjeldberg – Devotion for December 25th, 2025
READ (Titus 3:4-7)
When the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy, through the water of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit. This Spirit he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
REFLECT
Merry Christmas! Today (and every day) we celebrate the good news that Christ is with us. Not distant. Not abstract. But present. God stepped into our world, into our lives, bringing goodness, loving kindness, and grace that we could never earn on our own. Paul reminds us in Titus that this salvation is not the result of our righteousness, our faithfulness, or our ability to “get it right.” It comes only from God’s mercy. Christmas is the clearest picture of that mercy: God showing up for us before we ever thought to ask, giving himself to us in Jesus.
Because Christ is with us, everything changes. We are given new life through the Holy Spirit. This is the life poured out on us richly, not sparingly. A life grounded in forgiveness, hope, and the promise that we belong to God. We are named and claimed as heirs of eternal life, not because of what we have done, but because of what Jesus has done for us. So today, whether your Christmas feels joyful and full or quiet and heavy, hear this good news: God’s loving kindness has appeared for you. Christ is with you. And that grace is more than enough, not just for today, but for every day that follows.
PRAY
God of grace and new life, thank you for coming to be with us in this world! Help us to see you working in our life and to accept and extend the grace that you have given to us through Jesus. Amen.
