Fjeldberg – Devotion for August 27, 2024

READ (Hebrews 6:19) We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf.

REFLECT We have done a lot of boating this summer. A fun day out on the lake always includes throwing out our anchor in our favorite spots to swim or fish. If the anchor does not catch properly, we often find ourselves drifting away from our intended spot. Thus, sending one of us swimming after the boat to reposition. It is always a scramble and sometimes a bit unnerving. This reminds me of how Jesus is our anchor. Without a firm hold on Him, we start drifting. Life can start to guide you off course. We each need to find what keeps us anchored to our Faith. Whether that is by going to church, prayer, reading his Word, or simply immersing ourselves in the fellowship of other Christians. Everyone has their own way of securing their anchor to Christ. Hebrews 6:19 lets us know that our anchor is not located in the deepest sea, but in the Highest Heaven.

PRAY: Dear God, wherever I am, I pray you will always remain my anchor and the one I will run to. Thank you for the gift of your Holy Spirit who leads, guides and steadies us along the road of life. In your name we pray. Amen.
