Fjeldberg – Devotion for August 18th, 2026
READ (1 Peter 3:15)
But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.
REFLECT
There is a lot to unpack in this verse, here are my reflections:
- But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord
- Our world is pulled in many directions, causing us humans to lose focus. Let’s strive to keep our eyes on Jesus.
- …give the reason for the hope that you have.
- So much pain and hurt in our world, and yet, we remember that Jesus died to save us from all of it. We can have hope in the day when Jesus comes back and we will all live in God’s world for eternity.
- But do this with gentleness and respect.
- Gentleness because it is hard to let go of our perception of control over our lives. For some, living a life of faith is scary, but we were made as relational beings to support and love one another.
- Respect because God created diversity amongst us so that we can continue to grow with each other by learning together. Not everyone sees things the same, and that’s okay, but we are called to love all of God’s children whether we agree with them or not.
PRAY
Dear God, I struggle so much with keeping my heart and mind centered on you, and sharing my love and hope with others is hard. Help me find strength and courage to be your disciple. Thank you for always loving me even when I fall short. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
