READ (Galatians 6:2)

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”

REFLECT

A few weeks ago Pastor Tim inserted these two questions into his message, what needs have you noticed recently and how did you respond? I began to reflect on the previous week as it had been an unusually emotional week with losses and heavy burdens of longtime friends. 

It was offering grace to a friend who was enduring the painful loss of her veterinary license because of prescribed medications for mental illness. 

It was calling a friend in hospice care who said “thanks…few people call when they hear the word hospice”. 

It was bridging the distance with a recently disabled high school classmate in another state to show that physical distance cannot break the bond of Christian fellowship. 

It was an another opportunity to say thank you and remind the person who gave my career a jump start that he lived a life of impact and success. Even though 98 and in cognitive decline, he said “it is nice to know that.” 

Finally when sitting with a friend, as we both mourned the death of his wife after 20 plus years of Alzheimer’s, he said “thank you for being a rock on this journey.” I sat in my car and praised God for holding me steady and present on those days it would have been easier to walk away from this devastating journey of losing a dear friend. 

We do not hold others up because we are strong, but because Christ is our foundation. God’s love is not abstract…it is a simple phone call, a card, a meal, a plate of cookies, or just a quiet presence to remind the broken they are not forgotten.   

PRAY   
Dear Heavenly Father, 

We know you are our Rock, our Fortress, and our Guide…we are never alone. Thank you for giving us the privilege of being your hands and feet. Forgive us for the times we are too busy or distracted to notice the hurting and respond to your nudges. Help us to listen and respond so that we may use our days to make a difference in someone’s life. 

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen
