Fjeldberg – Devotion for April 9th, 2026

READ (Romans 7:15)

For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate.

REFLECT

The Apostle Paul wrote the letter to the Romans. In this verse he states he doesn’t understand what he does. How can that be? After Jesus was crucified and raised from the dead, Saul/Paul was one of the Jews who persecuted the early followers of Christ. As a matter of fact, Saul/Paul was on his way to Damascus to persecute some of Jesus’ followers when Jesus himself called down to Saul/Paul and asked “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?” (You may want to read Acts 9 if you are not familiar with Saul’s conversion.)

So, Paul admits in Romans, after he was converted, that he is not even sure what he is doing all the time.

This confirms to me that even if I’m confused, I can trust Jesus will use me if I keep my mind and heart open to His will.

PRAY

Father in heaven, please keep my heart and mind open to your will and guidance at all times. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
