Fjeldberg – Devotion for April 2nd, 2026
READ (Matthew 26:20-21)
When evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the Twelve. And while they were eating, he said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me.”
REFLECT
I love to cook (and eat), anything really, but I really enjoy getting to cook or bake for other people. There is something special about creating a moment or place for people to gather and share an experience intentionally. Sure, cooking a big meal or baking something complicated is really fun, but even sharing a simple meal and getting to reconnect and share life is the main reason of gathering.
Much of Jesus's ministry was centered around gathering with people and eating a meal together. Jesus fed people both physically and spiritually. I feel a similar call, and trust that the Spirit is working through me in those moments and conversations. I dare not compare myself to Jesus (I'm not that good) and need the Spirit's guidance. We look to those Jesus ate with, tax collectors, outcasts, sinners, and even someone who would betray him. Jesus calls you and me to the table to eat and be in community so that we can be filled and transformed by the Holy Spirit.
As we enter into these holy three days, I invite you to come to church, to gather in community with us as we journey closer to Jesus together. AND who can you invite to come and sit with you at church?
PRAY
God of welcome, you sent Jesus to live among us to show us how to live in community together. Help us to create space in our lives and at our tables for others. Give us open hearts and minds to share your love with all whom we encounter. Amen.
