SERVING THE COMMUNITY

Serving others is one of the great blessings God offers us. Acts of selfless service connect us to
others, bring glory to God, and shine the light of Christ into the world around us.

Food Pantry

Fjeldberg operates the Community Food Pantry at 503 E. First Street in Huxley, serving people of the Ballard area.  Food provided to individuals and families feeds a total of 20-30 people each week in our community.  A variety of food items is available including frozen meat items. The food pantry is open every Wednesday, 6:00 – 7:00pm.

God's Work Our Hands

“God’s work. Our hands” Sunday is a dedicated day of service.  The people of Fjeldberg put on our bright yellow T-shirts and serve in our community.   This past fall we had a great time! We trimmed bushes and did clean-up in two of our city parks.  We stocked shelves and did cleaning at our local clothing pantry and at the food pantry. Our work shined the light of God’s abundant love into our community. Fjeldberg is not alone in this serving.  Every year the 4 million members and nearly 10,000 congregations of the ELCA plan and complete service projects in their communities and beyond.

Quilts and School Kits

Quilters at Fjeldberg gather every Tuesday afternoon and hand make quilts and assemble school kits that are given to Lutheran World Relief to assist people in need in places all over the world.  In 2018 Fjeldberg quilters completed 62 handmade quilts and 110 school kits. Quilts may go to refugee camps, help after natural disasters, or rebuild the lives of displaced people. School kits contain supplies to help children (and sometimes adults) go to school.  Education is one of the best tools for a community to break the cycle of poverty.
If you can sew, operate a pair of scissors, or tie a knot, our quilters can put your skills to work (and the fellowship is great).

High School Mission Trips

Each year we go out and help people in need. In previous year we have served the people of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Cincinnati, Ohio; Cairo, Illinois; and the Cheyenne River Reservation in South Dakota. We work and serve alongside other Christians from other communities who are serving at the same site. And we work alongside local agencies that are making a difference in those communities. In the process we learn from the local people: God is up to something in each place and God’s grace is revealed to us in new and sometimes challenging ways.
This year the High school mission trip went to Kenosha, Wisconsin July 7- July 13.

Meals from the Heartland

Meals From the Heartland (located in West Des Moines) empowers others to take action against hunger for the sake of people in critical situations.  Volunteer teams package meals comprised of dry ingredients for delivery to under-nourished people in Iowa, across the United States, and around the world.

A few times a year Fjeldberg volunteers come together as a congregation and help serve by packing hundreds of meals.  We are proud to support Meals From the Heartland in helping to stop hunger in our community and around world.
